Rabbi's Groups

Brown Bag

Rabbi Emertius Geoff Huntting will continue the long standing tradition of hosting a brown bag lunch on Wednesdays.

12:15 to 1:15 in the Social Hall.  Beginning November 2, 2017  
Open to all who are interested (and often passionate) about local, national and world events, Rabbi Huntting's  Brown Bag group is a forum for exploring the Jewish and ethical issues behind the news. Come prepared to vigorously debate current events and enter into discussions that are timely and stimulating. Everyone is welcome.
 

 

Introduction to the Bible with Rabbi Churgel, RJE

Wednesdays, 9:15 to 10:15 AM in Social Hall A.  Beginning October 25

An in-depth study, word by word of the Torah.  Drop in anytime!  No charge and open to the community.  Bring your own Tanakh to each session. 

 

What's in a Name

Sundays, 10:15 - 11:00 AM

Dates to be determined

3 session course delving into all aspects of Hebrew names.  If you don't have one, you will be able to choose your own and be called to the Bimah to be officially given that name.

 

Guest Rabbis Series

Monthly on the 1st Sunday of each month beginning in 2018.

Our congregation is fortunate to have "somewhat-retired" Rabbis as our members.  They are willing share their knowledge and interests with us.

January 7 - Rabbi Howard Simon, Israel and the Middle East of Today.

February 4 - to be announced

March 4 - Rabbi Peter Kasdan, Jewish Genetic Diseases

April 8 - Rabbi Howard Herman, topic to be determined.

Open to the community, $9 per session or $27 for all 4 sessions.  Includes bagels and coffee.

with Rabbi Ari Shapiro

Wednesdays, 1:30 - 3 PM, Classroom 2, beginning November 1

16 sessions.  $36 for congregants, $72 for guests.

Chazzan's Groups

The Sounds of our Sancturary

Wednesdays, 10:45 - 12 in the Chapel beginning October 18, 2017  

This class examines the evolution of synaogue music and provide a deeper personal understanding of what synagogue music as, is and will be in years to come.

Members, suggested donation of $18 to cover materials.  Guests, $36 for the series.

Sinai Singers

Torah Chanters

At the High Holy Days, Festival Services and Shabbat throughout the year, our lay people often take the lead in  chanting Torah and Haftarah.  If you are able to chant or are interested in studying the ancient art of Torah cantillation, please contact Chazzan Cliff Abramson at chazzancwa@aol.com

Beginning and Intermediate Hebrew

For those interested in learning to read prayer book Hebrew and what the prayers mean, two levels are offered throughout the year.  Check with the Main Office to see when the next class starts.
Private Hebrew reading tutoring is also available.  

 

Rosh Chodesh Women's Study Group

Rosh Chodesh, occurring monthly, as a celebration of the "New Moon" is a holiday specifically for women and celebrated by women.  Our gatherings take place on the Friday closest to the actual Rosh Chodesh date:  we meet from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM in Room 2 of the school wing,  An optional lunch, offsite follows.  Our creative gatherings are facilitated by one or two group members and include innovative programming in a friendly and nurturing atmosphere. There is no charge.  All women are invited to participate.
